Our lives are not determined by what happens to us but by how we respond to what transpires. Not by what life brings to us, but by the attitude we bring to life. A positive attitude causes a chain reaction of positive thoughts, events, and solutions. It is a catalyst, a spark that creates extraordinary results.

This is the very basis that I willingly accepted an invitation to participate in Hand-Wash-Hand (HWH). I believe that there is a need for each of us to create for ourselves what is not given to us. We realize that it is not always easy to accomplish our goals, and with this in mind HWH stands to aid those who are willing to work hard, give back to their community and build a life where they can help themselves to have strong work ethic and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
We live in a world where too much is wasted and too many are left unconsidered. Though we may only be touching a few lives on this large scale of people in need. However, I feel that we are making a giant step in the lives of all the people we touch. My philosophy is … as the saying goes, “the journey of a million miles begins with a single step.”

It goes back to the belief that if, at the moment of my death, I cannot look back and conclude that I used my life, my skills, my knowledge, my heart and my efforts to make a positive impact in as many lives as possible, then I would have wasted time given to me on earth.

In today's hectic world it’s easy to get caught up in our daily routine. We take for granted the conveniences and niceties that we all have and forget what it would be like for us if we didn't. As much as we may have or as little that we may have - the point is - we have and there are so many people out there that can't say the same. I want to do what I can to make a difference, perhaps not to hundreds but to one. I believe that change starts with us and in by doing whatever we can we can, in whatever way that we can - we will make a difference.

We often spend so much time thinking of all the things we can do to make our environment a better place – passing a crumbling home, a flooded park in need of repair, a child on the street with no shoes, a sidewalk they are about to walk on littered with trash – but we often keep going thinking we can do it another day. Nothing seems more intimidating than taking the first step to help, but nothing is easier that taking the second. It becomes a momentum and now more than ever we need that momentum to take effect. It doesn’t matter how small, it doesn’t matter if it goes unnoticed, it just matters that we try.
“The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing.”
- Albert Einstein

My inspiration comes from the knowledge that because of something I did there is one more person in this world who has become happy... And I like making people happy!

I am blessed and in my life’s journey, I want to be a blessing to others in return. The feeling of giving, of helping, of making a difference in someone else's life awakens your spirit! Winston Churchill once said “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.”

We all have a responsibility to society. Whether we choose to have a positive impact or a negative one is up to our personal choice. I truly believe that it is in giving that we receive. Simply showing people you care can make a world of difference in their lives. The gratitude that you receive, and the happiness that you bring to those you help, are the best rewards. For this reason, I aspire to have a positive impact on society by making an effort to help others. The concept of Hand-Wash–Hand is a vision that I hope will become a reality throughout our society. Hopefully, in leading by example, we can increase social awareness and inspire those we help, making a difference in their communities and, eventually, throughout Belize.
